Burgers and Fries

It's been awhile since we've talked about food. So, I was thinking, lets talk about it today. Ok? My kitchen is coming along. Slowly but surely. We are using oil-based paints which will be more durable, but take more longer (did you like that) to dry! Much Much more longer! We have to wait 24 hours between coats. Which means the cabinet doors are going to take 4 days just to paint the cream! Holy crap that's a long time! I'm getting to the food, I promise! Anyway, after the final coat of paint has dried for a couple of days, then we can start the antiquing...then we will have to wait a couple more days to do the top coat. THEN, Oh boy! we have to start the bottom cabinets. That's where all my pans, dish towels, silverware, tin foil, dish soap, practically my whole kitchen's life is in the bottom stuff!

Now for the food...or in my case, a lack thereof! I need help! I need some GOOD crock pot recipes, or some ideas for pre-cooking foods and then freezing them. Jenny- that's you I'm talking to about the freezing stuff. I know you do it all the time. Also, I have a new Sam's Club membership, which I don't love at all, but had to get one because Costco has stopped selling some of the necessities I use for preschool, but that's a whole different topic! Anyway- sheesh! Back on Sam's Club... what things do you guys like from there as far as frozen meals?

More on the topic of food... last night, Jason "cooked" dinner. I love it when he does that! ( I should note that Jason really does know how to and does actually prepare food... when I say he "cooked" dinner, it's typically code for "I was a looser and didn't come up with any brilliant food ideas, therefore, we ate out") We went to Five Guys! Anyone ever been there? They have the most Delicious burgers EVER! You can order yours "all the way" which means it has grilled onions and mushrooms, pickles, mayo, tomato, the works! ALL day long today I've been thinking of it! Anyone want to go to lunch Wednesday? At around 12:30 ish? You, me, and 5 guys? Anyone? Anyone? Beuler? Beuler?

I'm tired of my standard food songs, so here are some less traditional food songs:

Short Skirt Long Jacket by Cake ( I thought some Cake with your music might be nice)
Ice Cream by Sarah Mclauchlin (and...what would cake be without ice cream?)
Orange Crush by REM (Forever, I thought that the song said "I've got my sprite, I've got my Orange Crush") So now, you can have some Orange Crush with your cake and ice cream, and think of my lyrics whenever you hear that song! :)

Super easy crock pot meal we just had tonight: 1 cup of BBQ sauce, 1 can crushed pineapple, chicken (breasts, tenders, thighs, whatever is cheap). Put it all in the crockpot, let it go on high for three or four hours. Shred the chicken in the sauce. Spoon over rice. I also like to add onion and garlic in to cook with it all. THis is a good one to cook even if you haven't thought about the dreaded "what's for dinner" question until lunch time. I put my chicken in frozen (yep, lazy. That's me.) and it is still done in four hours. I do cornbread muffins and salad with it(if I am super ambitious) or it can be a meal in itself. You may want to double the sauce/pineapple for your family. (We don't have too many real eaters around here.) Also, if your family doesn't like chunks, I just throw the pineapple in the magic bullet first. (Don't drain it.)

want me to put post it notes in a few of my favorites and swing by one of my cookbooks? i'd be happy to... honestly, you can freeze most casseroles that you eat (think lasagna, enchiladas, etc). you can freeze some soups, most chicken dishes, etc. i'd be happy to share my faves with you.... broccoli cheese soup, chicken with red potatoes, chicken pesto ravioli, etc. these you either throw in the oven to bake or warm on stove/in microwave.

I can't wait to see your cabinets! Please keep us all posted with some pictures.

I am also interested in crock pot recipes. Anything we can do to simplify dinner time is great. The only things that I usually ever do in mine would be a pot roast in a little bit of water. It cooks for 8 hours. After 7 hours I add baby carrots and an onion and they cook in there for the last hour.
We make Chili Verde too. We cut into cubes some pork roast, brown it lightly on a pan, and then put it in the crock pot along with a can of chicken broth, and a can of diced green chili's to cook for the day. Then after about 8 hours, we prepare the 2 bottles of chili verde salsa in a sauce pan on the stove and add 2-3 tablespoons of corn starch to make it thicken up and then we add it to the crock pot and have it heat up for a bit. We serve it with black beans, onions and cheese in flour tortilla's.
Then there is the very easy pork roast that you cook for 8 hours, and then shred and add some bbq sauce and serve in potato rolls.

I hope that I am making sense. I am so dang tired. I need to get to sleep soon!

Okay, here is my list of Costco "I don't want to cook dinner tonight" standbys.
-Bird's Eye Garlic Chicken (It has veggies, sauce, noodles)
-Tamales (make spanish rice and smother them with sour cream, salsa, etc.)
-Brats, buns and oven fries
-Lasagna
-Ravioli or Tortellini (Add red or white sauce and canned chicken, garlic bread.)
-Frozen bbq pork (It is in a serving tray. I just dump it in the crock pot to reheat. Serve on rolls with provolone and oven fries.)
