Closing Time

"Every new beginning, comes from some other beginning's end"
I couldn't have said that better myself! It's so true about graduation and life in general!
Sue's graduation has been very bitter sweet for all of us. We're sad that our little girl is growing up. I'm not even sure we can call her our little girl anymore! She's practically and adult! But we're also so excited for her next chapter. I'll keep you posted!

Big Rock Candy Mountain

Last week, this was my little girl- loading the bus to go to girls camp. She was so nervous about going. In her hurry to pack, I noticed that she had forgotten her pillow, some extra shoes, and a few other odds and ends, so after Jason got off work, we drove up there to give them to her. We got there right before 9pm, when they were getting ready to shut the gate for the night. I went in to the main office with her stuff, and the staff asked me who it was for, but when I told them her name, they knew immediately who I was talking about. They explained to me that she had already been to the office complaining of anxiety and a sick stomach, but reassured me that they thought she had calmed down and wouldn't need to go home.

She met lots of new friends.... she tried her hand at archery.... and made a bulls-eye! (as you can tell, she was humbled when she made it) :)She brushed her teeth with ash. . . and got in a big-ash fight with the stuff!

she tried the zip line. Here she is strapped in and ready to go.

Proof:

(the video kind-of reminds me of that movie called the Blair Witch Project- remember that one?)

Anyway, she had a great time, despite the home-sickness. We're so proud that she stayed the full five days. I guess the people didn't give her the stuff until about day 3. They told her when they gave it to her that the women's support group brought it up to her. It was probably wise though, if she had known we were there, she would have wanted to come home right then and there.

Who says you need rain....

to use an umbrella (or three umbrellas in this case)?
While "Super" was making a hut outside, I realized she had made a bat shadow out of her umbrellas.

Hop on over to Hey Harriet for Shadow Shot Sunday. I am definitely aware that I play with the big boys when I participate, but it's fun...and it makes me feel loved! Happy Shadow Shot Sunday!!!

Where, Oh Where has My Blog- Time Gone?

I know...It's taken up by my little dog.

And, since he's the baby of the family, I feel it fitting to update you on puppy business. Sorry. It's taking up much of my life right now. Even as I type, little Rhino is sleeping on my lap. (Thank goodness he's asleep or I wouldn't be doing anything on the computer!)

So, I mentioned that Rhino's got his first set of shots a couple of weeks ago. One of the vaccines was for Kennel Cough. About a week after the shot, Rhino started acting weird. He was peeing more than usual almost like he was marking his territory. I thought he had a UTI. The next day, he started coughing and acting like he was going to throw up, but every time that happened, nothing came out. As night approached, it got worse and worse. Neither one of us got a wink of sleep. I took him to the doctor first thing the next morning, and he has kennel cough! Dang it! We got him on a cough suppressant and antibiotics and he's doing much much better now.

Here's some more things we've noticed about him:

He's just like a toddler! When 10 o'clock rolls around, he starts getting antsy. He can't hold still in your arms or out of your arms. He starts biting, etc. Last night, he did this, and I picked him up and put him in his kennel. He barked for about 15 minutes. I got sick of hearing him, and got him out to play for a few more minutes. The biting continued, so after he had been out for about 10 more minutes, I put him back in the kennel. Not another peep until morning. Does that sound exactly like a 2 year old?

We could have named him Hoover or Dyson. The dog is a vacuum! He's always got his nose to the ground sniffing for stuff to eat. Most of the time, it's not food that he eats either. In fact, last week, he got a hold of a pony tail holder and swallowed it. After about 3 days, he finally threw it up.
**edited to add: He HATES going outside when the grass is wet! Not that I can really blame him. He's so short that the grass touches his belly and man parts. He's not a fan of that. In fact, every time I have him outside in those conditions, he does this weird, really fast, bark. Like a shiver-bark. It's been raining so much lately, that I've had to keep a towel close by so that I can dry the poor pooch off when we get inside.
In Rhino's past life, he was one of the following:
a pansy
a parrot
a vacuum
a bloodhound
a rhinoceros
or Dori

First Check-up

We took Rhino to the vet yesterday for his first check-up. The staff was dying over how cute he is and they loved his name. One of the nurses said "Oh look, he even runs like a rhino!"

He weighs a whopping 2.2 pounds!

I learned so much at the visit!! It was worth every penny! I absolutely love the people at Mid Valley Animal Clinic if you are ever looking for a good vet in this neck of the woods.

Anyway, more about Rhino....

We've discovered more about this little guy.

1. In his past life, he was a parrot. Yep. He loves to perch on your shoulder. Makes me want to grab an eye patch and talk like a pirate! Arrr!

2. He has 2 speeds. 90 miles per hour and dead stop. No kidding.

3. He love peanut butter. Loves it! I put some in his Kong and it kept him busy for about 20 minutes. I don't know why I didn't do it sooner!!!

4. He loves to burrow in your lap. It's so cute. When he's been playing for awhile, he will just hop onto your lap and take a little snooze.

5. We're still trying to work on the potty thing. But after visiting the vet and talking to one of my moms (who happens to be a dog trainer) I feel pretty confident that we'll have it down pretty quickly!
