Map of the World

AKA. Shadow Shot Sunday

While at the zoo on Monday, I found this cute little prop. The canopy over head and things behind the canvas wall made for some cool shadows.

Do you have any cool shadow pics you want to share? If so, go to Hey Harriet.

Song for today: Maps by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (BTW: this is one of my fave Rock Band songs and I LOVE the drums in it!!!! Some day, I hope to have a real set of drums so that I can play along)

Happy Shadow Shot Sunday! :)

A Glutton For Pinishment

I'm not sure what we were thinking, but Thursday, we bought a puppy. . . .

Meet RhinoHe is a 7 week old Chihuahua.
Look at the cute little heart on his head. Here he is about to attack this vicious stick.Bear with me on these last two photos. I know they are out of focus. I included them on this post because Dax is pretty unsure about this whole puppy thing. But look at what a good girl she's being as Rhino is playing with her.

So far, we have discovered he is NOT really a good sleeper. The first night he slept for about 8 hours. Waking up at EXACTLY 6:00am BUT last night, he woke up at 3:00, 5:00, and 6:00. I got up with Loo at 3. She wasn't too happy with Rhino. She looked like she was going to strangle him. I asked her if it was worth it for a puppy and she exclaimed "Yes! I wouldn't trade him for anything!"

We think he has ADD. He will be all excited chasing after a toy, then stop dead in his tracks to pick up a tiny piece of paper on the ground, or attack a leaf. Or he'll be starving and go grab some of his food, then about half way through the first couple bites, he'll stop and go attack the rug. What a goofy dog!

His favorite toy is ANYTHING that's not a designated dog toy! He's like a tiny little toddler. He picks up everything and puts it into his mouth.

He is fun though...I think. We'll see how tonight goes. I might be singing a different tune tomorrow.

How about some Eels to keep you company today here's Beloved Monster. I think that's fitting for this little guy! :)

Freaky Wednesday!

Last Wednesday, Super and I were eating breakfast together, when out of the blue she asks "Mom? Can girls change into boys?"

"What do you mean sweetie?" I responded

She said "You know. Like boys can get surgery to turn into girls?"

I said "I don't know. I suppose so."

"They can!" She exclaimed. "You know that girl from Freaky Friday? The one with the spiky hair and a boy hair cut?"

"Jaime Lee Curtis?" I asked.

"Ya! She used to be a boy!"

That's how you know...

...he's the one.
About a month ago, we finally went to Five Guys to place our love notes on their board. Last week, we went back to see if our notes were still up, and guess what...they were!

In The Swim

subtitled My Shadow Shot Sunday #4
I love everything about this picture! "Super's" smile is so dang cute! I love the spaces between her teeth. I love the dimple on her cheek. I love the way the goggles squish her eyes and cheeks. I love her wet hair wiped across her forehead. And I love the hints of sun on her skin peeking in from the tree and the shadows cast on the grass. What can I say, I just adore it! It makes me happy....and glad it's Memorial Day weekend and all the pools in my neck of the woods are officially open for the summer!

In 13 days...

...Sue will graduate from high school. Holy cow!
I keep asking myself how we got from here... to here.

I don't know where the time went, but I do have some pictures! (by the way...this makes me feel OLD)

Kindergarten:First grade:Second grade:Third grade:Forth grade:Fifth grade:Sixth:SeventhI don't know where 8th and 9th grades went, but here's her sophomore pictureJunior (no braces)Senior (braces back on...she was NOT very happy about that)

Anyway, we are SO proud of Sue and all that she has accomplished! This school year, as many of you know, she's been working her tail off doing 1/2 day at the high school, then the other 1/2 school day at cosmetology. A couple nights a week she takes some night classes too, so she's at school until 8:30 pm on those days. Plus, she's been working to put herself through school! Talk about being self-motivated!

Her plans: Once high school is completely done (in 13 days, but who's counting) she'll be going on a much needed vacation with her friends to St. George, Las Vegas, and Anaheim. I think it's a 10 day trip!!! She's taking the summer off of school to play hard and work a little, then in the fall, she will continue on with her cosmetology schooling. She has about 1 -1/2 to 2 years left.

Sophomores and Seniors

As promised, here is the second installment of catching up posts. This one's going to be all about Sue. That's how she likes it!!

Prom was a couple weeks ago. Sue and her best friend Andrea are both Seniors and got asked by two Sophomore boys. Talk about guts! Anyway, the "day date" was four wheeling and then of course prom was in the evening. Here are some highlights:

Music to my ears

I am so proud of my little Loo. She has been taking piano for about 2 years now and participated in her very first recital a couple of weeks ago. She is very head-strong! Her teacher wanted her to perform a different piece, but there was NO way she was going to! She worked her fanny off to be able to perform it for everyone that evening.

I said I wasn't going to do one this year, but I'd feel like I was cheating if I didn't do one. Sooooooooo, please stick with me. I promise I'll be back in a few days (hopefully)
Oh, and one more thing before I go.... Sue's court date is tomorrow. Hopefully something actually gets resolved this time. Click here if you can't figure out what in the heck I'm talking about, OR if you need your memory refreshed.

Flight

"You haven't seen a tree until you've seen its shadow from the sky"- Amelia Earhart

My shadow shot for today was taken in February, on Groundhog day. I took my preschool class outside to learn a lesson about shadows. When our lesson was through, the kids had a chance to make up fun and interesting shadows, and I was able to snap this fun picture!

Mother's Day Cards

I found some great cards this year and I thought I would share them with you! Don't worry. NO ONE from my family reads my blog (except for Jason)

Here's the first one (I'm giving it to my mom)
Under the picture it reads: Hey mom, thanks for teaching me so many things!
Inside: Especially that potty training thing. I can't tell you how many times that comes in handy!

The next one I love, is this one (Jason's giving it to his mom- I cannot wait to see her face when she opens the envelope)
Inside it reads: See there are things more frightening than having me as your child!

The last one I got is for Roberta (my Dad's wife) It has a picture similar to this on the front
Inside it reads: Ethyl knew to limit her Mother's Day celebration to just one glass of wine.

We decided to give all the moms in our life a subscription to a cooking magazine. I gave Jason's mom and Roberta- Healthy Cooking and my mom is getting Simple and Delicious. I know Jason's mom will like hers, hopefully my moms will like theirs.

What are you getting your mom for mother's day?

Here's a couple classics about Moms:
Simple Man by Lynard Skynyrd
Julia by the Beatles Couldn't find that one, but it's great so I've included it as a video if you want to flash back a minute. Jon Lennon wrote it about his mamma.
And I'm leaving Memories are made of this...because it makes me happy. :)

If I were a voodoo priestess....

"I don't like to say that my kitchen is a religious place, but if I were a voodoo priestess, I would conduct my rituals there" - Pearl Bailey

As promised here are some pics of the kitchen. Notice my "jugs" proudly displayed above the cabinets. Lots of people are shy about showing theirs off, but not me. No sir-ee! I say, if you've got 'em, flaunt 'em!!New fan...'cause things can certainly get hot in the kitchen...if you know what I mean. *wink* wink* You know what's weird. After organizing everything, we have 1 drawer with nothing in it!
I'm not even sure what to put in there. If it were in my bedroom, I know what I'd put in it....socks, but in the kitchen? Hmm.

Scary

Ok, bear with me! I am going to make an attempt at Shadow Shot Sunday. I took this picture a couple of weeks ago. I thought that the shadows from my iron lantern looked cool on the wall of my kitchen. Plus, I just really wanted an idea for something else to blog about. So, without further ado, here's my first attempt.

What is a shadow without the sun? So here are todays tunes: Good Day Sunshine and Here Comes the Sun both by the Beetles.

Happy Shadow Shot Sunday everyone!! To play along, click here.

B-I-N-G-O

I have to share a cute little story about "Loo". When she was 3 or 4, she used to sing a great version of B-I-N-G-O. Here's how it went:

Old McDonald had a farm
and Bingo was his name was
Pop-Pop-Too-Doo-Doo
Pop-Pop-Too-Doo-Doo
Pop-Pop-Too-Doo-Doo
and Bingo was his name was!

Blue Bayou Pork Loin

AKA Pork with Root Beer Apples

It's overdue, I'm sorry, but here's the promised recipe from our first meal in the newly done kitchen!

5 lbs Pork Loin (we usually buy a big one at Costco and use half of it)
Jerk Seasoning

Preheat oven to 350. Rub jerk seasoning all over the pork loin. Roast for about 70 minutes or until internal temp is 155 degrees. After done, let pork rest for about 5 minutes.

Root-Beer sliced apples

4 large Granny Smith apples
6 oz brown sugar (not exactly sure how much that is, but we call it 3/4 cup)
1 1/2 Tablespoons cornstarch
2 1/2 cups root beer soda
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
cold water 1 1/2 teaspoon

Core, peel and cut apples into four wedges. Cut four slices per wedge. Combine root beer, nutmeg, cinnamon, and ground cloves in a sauce pan. Bring to a boil and stir frequently. Separately, in a owl, mix cornstarch and a little water to make a thin paste. When the root beer mix starts boiling, add cornstarch and mix well. Add apples and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let it simmer for ten minutes stirring frequently. Serve over the pork loin.

(we usually have Au Gratin potatoes with it)

Monte Cristos from Disneyland

Here is a fabulous recipe that's COMPLETELY FAT FREE *wink*wink*
It was supposedly distributed to Disneyland Annual Passholders a while back. (we found it from one of those said passholders on the internet)

Batter:
1 1/2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon baking powder
1/3 cups water
1 egg

(mix dry ingredients then add egg and water, then set aside)

sandwich:
Slice of turkey (we usually choose an oven roasted turkey)
Slice of ham (we LOVE the Tavern Ham from Walmart of all places)
Slice of Swiss cheese (the recipe calls for 1 ounce portions of meat and cheese. you can play with it to see how much you like)
2 slices egg bread (we never found that kind of bread, buy the one called Bakers Delight or something like that)

Make sandwiches with turkey, then cheese, then ham. Cut sandwich in quarters using toothpicks to hold the sandwich together
Dip sandwiches into batter then fry in canola oil (360 degrees) until golden brown.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with blackberry jam. (we like the Knotts brand seedless blackberry)

enjoy!
